As medical professionals, we understand the critical role that access to safe and legal reproductive healthcare plays in the well-being of individuals and communities. That is why we have a unique role to play in advancing access to safe and legal abortion services, contraception, and comprehensive reproductive healthcare.
On 21st July 2023, MDFC organized a workshop for new medical doctors on expanding the network of pro-choice physicians by reflecting on current strategies, and the local context of safe abortion care in Rwanda. The workshop was interactive and experience-sharing between the physicians in their daily practices for safe abortion care provision. During the workshop, MDFC explored the barriers and challenges faced by healthcare providers in the provision of legal abortion care services and what can be done by medical doctors to address those challenges to increase access to safe abortion in Rwanda. Further, new pro-choice members were introduced to MDFC as the organization that represents the opinions, ideas, and services of medical doctors who chose to dedicate their profession to providing and advocating for SRHR services to save lives.
